Germany is ageing, in Italy the situation has grown dramatically, and even a high-fertility country like France is faced with major challenges in adapting its social systems to the ongoing process of demographic change. Hundreds of thousands of eastern Europeans have migrated, creating gaps in the population structure of their home countries.
In a new study, the Berlin-Institute for Population and Development has looked into what developments are likely to occur in the 285 regions of the 27 EU member states as well as in the various regions of Norway, Iceland, and Switzerland:
EUROPE´S DEMOGRAPHIC FUTURE - Growing Regional Imbalances.
The Berlin-Institute and the Robert Bosch Stiftung are honoured to invite you to a press breakfast
on Monday, November 24th, 2008, between 8.30 and 10 a.m.
at the Representation of the State of Baden-Württemberg to the EU,
Rue Belliard 60-62, 1040 Brussels (Phone: 0032-2-741 77 11).
True, this is an unusually early hour– but while you are breakfasting, we will offer you some refreshing graphs and charts, some absorbing facts and suggestions for political action, designed to rouse not only you but the political world and the general population as well. Our speakers are experts in their field:
Reiner Klingholz, Director, Berlin-Institute: Europe´s Demographic Future
Rainer Münz, Head of Research, Erste Group, member of the EU's "group of the wise": Responses of the business community to the demographic challenges facing Europe.
Both speakers speak English, French and German and will be available to answer whatever questions you may have. This should suffice to whet your appetite, and set the stage for a discussion on the issue of demography. Our presentation will be followed by the 2nd European Demography Forum, in the Charlemagne Building, Rue de la Loi 170, directly across the street.
Starting on November 24th, the Berlin-Institute’s study - EUROPE´S DEMOGRAPHIC FUTURE - will be available under www.berlin-institut.org as well as under www.earthprint.com.
