The poster illustrates the connections between development and population on six clearly designed world maps, pinpoints global demographic crisis zones, and clarifies which measures would be necessary to tackle the problems.

How will the world’s population have changed by 2050? Which countries are affected by shrinkage, and do they include Germany? Where will rapid growth continue? And which living conditions in the poorest countries produce the fatal cycle of poverty and disease, educational deficits and low levels of development, women’s inequality, and high numbers of children?

You can access a detailed description in German, and download the PDF version here.

The double-sided poster was created in cooperation with the German Foundation for World Population (Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevölkerung - DSW) – with the generous support of the Munich Re Foundation. On the back of the poster, the DSW tells the story of 15-year-old Brenda whose father died of AIDS and whose mother is HIV-positive. As a youth counsellor in the Ugandan capital of Kampala, Brenda educates other youths about the dangers of unprotected sex. The East African nation has the highest rate of youth HIV infection worldwide.
