Sub-Saharan Africa is the only world region whose working-age population will continue to grow significantly until 2100. If this large generation of young people is provided with sufficient and, above all, good jobs, living conditions for many people can improve in a sustainable manner. Creating more and better jobs is therefore an urgent priority for governments, but also for international development cooperation.
Demographic developments, such as strong urbanisation as well as a growing rural population, influence the demands for effective employment promotion. Our current fact sheet shows how population dynamics and employment promotion are related.
The fact sheet series "Population Dynamics in Development Policy Dialogue" was funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Sector Initiative Population Dynamics, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.
